Reflecting on aging and aesthetic treatment goals at APAC
Reflecting on aging and aesthetic treatment goals at APAC. An edited account of source experience, research context and limitations.
This edited account distinguishes personal experience, laboratory research and clinical studies. Individual suitability requires clinical assessment.
At a Merz APAC conference, Dr. Hyemi Yu reflected on how aesthetic medicine approaches aging. The source’s five themes were respecting one’s changing self, considering whole-body changes in midlife, healthspan, natural treatment goals and the meaning of the name “1PM.”
The author interpreted the conference message Proudly Becoming as taking pride in personal change. Experience and confidence can contribute to beauty; restoring every face to an earlier appearance need not be the only goal. This is a personal perspective.
The account considers skin together with hormones, sleep, weight, muscle and daily life in women aged 45–64. It is not a diagnostic rule that everyone changes in the same way at that age. Nor does the term healthspan imply that aesthetic procedures extend it.
One conference case emphasized retaining expression and individual features. A single case involving several treatments cannot establish the effectiveness or natural appearance of a particular procedure.
Finally, the author compared midlife to one in the afternoon: a time when new activities remain possible. This reflects the author’s philosophy while preparing the clinic at the time of writing. It is not an announcement of current opening dates or services.
