Distinguishing PRP and stem-cell-related melasma research

Distinguishing PRP and stem-cell-related melasma research. Source observations, research context and limitations.

Author: Hyemi YuPublished: Updated:

This article discusses the source author’s earlier literature, cases and experiences. Research populations and limitations matter; individual diagnosis and treatment require clinical assessment.

The source discusses interest in PRP and stem-cell-related skin procedures and asks how evidence should be interpreted in people with melasma.

The author recalls both perceived improvement and darkening after PRP in different patients. An experience can generate a question but does not establish a general benefit, harm rate or cause.

Growth-factor pathways are proposed as explanations, but mechanisms alone do not prove a clinical worsening rate. PRP, stem-cell products and exosomes differ and cannot share one evidence label.

The source cites SCF and c-KIT expression in melasma lesions, PMID16704639. Increased expression in a lesion does not show that any particular injected product causes worsening.

The source cites a pilot split-face PRP study, PMID31568636, reporting a comparison with saline. A small trial and an author’s observations need separate interpretation; not every person responds the same way.

Keep the evidence streams separate

Clinical PRP findings, SCF/c-KIT expression and stem-cell or exosome hypotheses are different questions. Do not set a treatment hierarchy or predict benefit or worsening from one mechanism or anecdote. Individual skin condition, product evidence and risks need assessment.

This literature discussion does not replace diagnosis or promise a particular pigmentation outcome.
